Archives

The Archive is based at the Central Research Labs, Dawley Road, Hayes and is one of the most impressive collections of music memorabilia from master tapes to gramophones and posters. The premises were purpose built in 1996 purely to store our wonderful heritage. All areas have temperature and humidity control to maintain correct storage of material.

The Archive contains approximately 7 million paper documents, master tapes, video masters, a record/CD collection of 1/2 million items, photographs and a collection of old gramophones, radios, TV's and other related ephemera. It's used on a daily basis by EMI people and visitors who carry out research. It loans out items from the libraries and provides label copy, recording details etc. for the re-issue of back catalogue material. The Archive was made into a Trust 2 years ago which ensures that its contents will be preserved for posterity. It's probably the best record industry Archive in the world.
