Job Shadowing & Transfers
If an employee wants to find out more about working in a different department then we'll arrange for him or her to shadow someone for a day or two to get first hand experience. This can lead to a permanent transfer when a vacancy arises or it sometimes confirms to the employee that they're in the right job or department to begin with.
Although many of us want to stay in the same function and develop our careers there, occasionally moving from one area to another gives a broader outlook and develops new skills. We actively encourage cross-functional moves when it's right for the individual and the company, there are plenty of examples where it's worked very successfully.
